Ted Schilowitz from RED showed up at CES this year and hooked up with Engadget for a quick chat on video with a Scarlet in hand! It’s sporting a 25mm T1.5 Mini Prime and the REDmote. The modularity is amazing…RED is Legos, for big kids! He talked up the stills mode a bit (100% REDcode RAW); I’m extremely interested to see how it compares to traditional dSLR cameras from Canon and Nikon. I’m planning on going with the 8X Fixed kit for starters and adding an interchangable brain later; those Mini RED primes are looking better and better.
Originally I was planning on a set of Zeiss primes along with an interchangable to begin with (plus all of my Nikon glass), but given the cost of the Mini REDs and the fact that they were built specifically for the RED, I’m betting they’ll give some awesome quality (though I’m still a HUGE fan of the Zeiss primes, so I’ll be testing out my current 35mm Zeiss when I get to the interchangable ASAP!). The video is about 10 minutes long with a lot of hands-on time:

We’ve all heard the saying “the best camera is the on you have on you”, and thanks to modern technology, it’s easy to carry a pocket-sized camera like the Canon SD780 anywhere you go. In this video, Chase Jarvis, professional photographer and creator of the Best Camera app for iPhone, discusses how he’s using an iPhone as his every day camera. It’s a good reminder to get out there and shoot something, even when you don’t have your particular “best” tool available!
